Close your eyes and imagine yourself as a new teacher
who is assigned to teach a class containing 60 students. After the initial
shock the first question that would come to mind is "How am I going to
manage them all?" Actually this question highlights one of the most
critical aspects of working in large classes, but did you think about the
benefits that you will have after working in such class? Large classes offer
you the opportunity to improve your interpersonal skills as you try different
ways to get to know each student as an individual through their work in the
class. The value of large class is that it contains a diversity of students and
learning styles and you can use many different fun ways of teaching. You will
also improve your evaluation skills and you will find that involving your
students in their learning and in assessing how well they have done can save
you time and reduce your workload.
Nice way of looking at things .. teachers must be facilitators and look at the positive things inspite of the obstacles they face ..
ReplyDeleteWell, it is actually an enormous shock to be in such a class, especially for a novice teacher. However, if we get to look at the matter the way you do, I believe it would be complete fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat I would like to add is that cooperative learning can be the best practice in such a context. I belive it would achieve all you've mentioned!
A nice topic, thank you!
I am surprised! Large classes have benefit, but after your post a think yes it has a benefit and as Rama Says teachers
ReplyDeleteshould look at positive points rather at the obstacles they face.
